| James Dean Bradfield |
07/10/2006 |
Leadmill, Sheffield |
Felt a bit of an imposter as I'm not an uber Manics or
James Dean Bradfield fan but this was a really nice intimate gig.
Sounded really good too so I told the soundman who rewarded me with the set-list, which brings me back to the guilt of not being a big enough fan! |

| Little Ze /Dead World Leaders |
06/10/2006 |
Lucorm, Barnsley |
Always intended to properly check out Daybreak or Dead World Leaders as they are known now and tonight I made the effort.
Good intelligent memorable rock stuff. Not so sure about Little Ze though. Was I the only paying punter tonight? |

| Juliette & The Licks |

Leadmill, Sheffield |
Not bad, much better than I expected. Juliette Lewis really works hard. Way too loud though. |

| Sheffield Live & Unsigned |
02/09/2006 |
Devonshire Green, Sheffield |
It's my birthday so what better way of getting through that unfortunate event than standing in a field alone in the rain with a pint of lager in hand.
This Floating World battled with the dodgy PA but still managed to triumph.
I almost got in a battle with the soundman myself when I decided to ask him to sort it out!
The Guild were good again. Sarah Jay and Steve Edwards added a bit of class.
Nice suprise when Mark and Gin turned up, cheers for the pint. :-)

| Pearl Jam, The Kooks, the Guild, etc (Leeds Festival) |
25/08/2006 (yep just the one day) |
Bramham Park Wetherby, Leeds(ish) |
So glad I finally got to see Pearl Jam. Emotionally intense rockin' performance and they can really play.
No idea why these guys were lumped in with the grunge thing.
During the day the main stage was all a bit rock,
maybe I was the only one there that could appreciate Killswitch Engage's cover of Dio's Holy Diver
(well appreciate might be going a bit far!)
Easily hit my 10 bands/day festival target.
Attempted to immerse myself in The Kooks hype but my festival companion couldn’t take the heat and the crush,
must admit it was quite an ordeal.
Band of the day, Pearl Jam excepted, were The Guild from Sheffield, very impressive.
So yeah great day, just don’t mention the his n’ hers cowboy hats ok!

| Snow Patrol |
15/07/2006 |
Millenium Square, Leeds |
This time Millenium square really is sold out. Excellent band with excellent songs.
Looks like this new album will do the business again for them. Great to see them playing headlining gigs to this size crowd. |

The Leadmill, Sheffield |
Oh yes soft rock is back! and this time in the Leadmill's big room.
If only Steve Overland sang for them you'd have the perfect band. ;-) |

| Foo Fighters |
18/06/2006 |
Lancashire County Cricket Ground |
Great Day, great atmosphere. The Foo Fighters totally rocked,
Dave Grohl always delivers. Just felt slightly guilty I didn't know all the words. |

| Ginger and the Sonic Circus |
08/06/2006 |
The Corporation, Sheffield |
Not quite the vibe of the Nottingham gig earlier in the year but still sounding good.
The songs on Valor del Corazon really do stand up. Would have been nice to see a few more people there and maybe I should have held back on the cider.
Came back with a really cool T shirt.
The future's bright, the future's Ginger! |

| Bon Jovi |
04/06/2006 |
City of Manchester Stadium |
Not at all fashionable I know, but I hadn't seen them for ten years so I thought it was about time I checked on how they were doing!
They've still got the songs and they sure know how to put on a show. Played for 2hours 40 mins. Impressive stuff, here's to the next 10 years. |

|
| Orson |
02/06/2006 |
Leadmill, Sheffield |
Well crafted Californian pop-rock with Jellyfish style melodies, so on paper the perfect band for me but there was an air of naffness that I couldn't quite put my finger on.
Maybe it was the distinctly non-leadmill crowd. Having a drink tipped down my back didn't help either. |

21/05/2006 |
Millenium Square, Leeds |
Back to Leeds again for the 2nd time in 2 days. Surely they're coming to the end of touring this album.
As it's the second time I've seen 'em I realised that a great deal more was played in from a backing track than you might at first think.
Neverthess great tunes to bounce up and down in the mosh pit to. |

Why did it take me so long to become aware of this band? Great songs and intense perfomance. Nice. |

| Arctic Monkeys |
25/04/2006 |
Hull Arena |
I felt it was only right that the whole 'team' were at this gig, hence paying £70 on ebay for a 5th ticket. Magna was not just a one off. The Monkeys totally delivered. Impressive. |

22/04/2006 |
Magna, Rotherham |
The hottest ticket of the year and someone at work got me this ticket through a contact (I feel so dirty). The songs, the energy, the Sheffieldness. amazing, so glad I can say I was there. |

| Seth Lakeman |
30/03/2006 |
Leeds Metropolitan University |
ok so me and a bunch of thirtysomethings got tickets for this on the back of last years mercury prize nomination. Nevertheless Seth Lakeman rocked tonight. |

Pretty damn good. I was worried that Ginger had gone off on one but the songs really work live, Some great covers too. |

06/03/2006 |
Leadmill, Sheffield |
The return of soft rock, (yeah really!) Proper songs, proper playing, sing-along choruses and non-ironic hands in the air clapping. All my christmasses and birthdays have come at once! There is a 'but' though - With a single at no.7 in the charts why is the gig on the small stage in front of just 200 people? |
| |

| Alkaline Trio |
25/02/2006 |

I've seen 'em better than this. Sound was a bit dodgy where I was stood too. Still the crowd seemed well up for it. |

Songs, conviction and they can play a bit too. Very impressive despite the Bass player saying hello Cardiff! |

| Nine Black Alps |
26/10/2005 |
Leadmill, Sheffield |
On paper I should have loved this. It's the 2nd attempt at a Nivana revival I've witnessed. But for some reason I never really got into it, probably more my fault than the band's. Maybe I should have bought the album prior to the gig. When I go to gigs on my own the music is more imprtant than the beer. I was with my beered-up mates this evening. |

| Dio |
10/10/2005 |
Rock City, Nottingham |
Wow this brings back memories, the Holy Diver album in full. That was the first Rock album I bought back in 1984. Fantastic. How old is Ronnie James Dio now? |

| 3 Colours Red, The Yo Yos |
18/09/2005 |
Josephs Well, Leeds |
I'm not the only one fitting this gig in on the way back home from Scarborough. Most notably Danny McCormack (wildhearts bassist) is at both gigs as well. This time Danny is playing with his band The Yo Yos. First time I've seen 'em and they're great, kind of rock/ sciffle/barbers shop but in a good way! 3 Colours Red played a great set. Inevitable but still sad to hear that this is the end - again! |

|
| The Wildhearts, Terrorvision, etc Rock In The Castle Festival |
17/09/2005 |
Scarborough Castle |
When Jackdaw 4 were added to the bill I just had to go. They subsequently pulled out. This festival hadn't been advertised through the normal channels and right from the start I had my doubts that the promoters would pull it off. But on getting through the gates I saw people and stages - this gig really was going to happen! The horrendous 2 hour beer queue and lack of veggie food added to the Dunkirk spirit that spread through the festival site. Hanoi Rocks were shambolic, Terrorvison probably won out on the day. The Wildhearts put on an impressive show but suffered from a dodgy sound. A+ for the effort of attempting to put on a Rock Festival at Scarborough Castle. Apparently only 2, 500 or so of the 6000 tickets were sold. The promoters went bust owing in excess of £100,000. It's a sh1t business!
But hang on yeah - I right enjoyed it!

| Glastonbury Festival |
24th, 25th, 26th June 2005 |
Worthy Farm Pilton Somerset |
Didn't hit my 30 band/festival quota this year due to rain stopping play on Friday but Glastonbury was just as life affirming as ever. Highlights included The Killers, Doves, Interpol, Kaiser Chiefs and Tori Amos. |

|
|
| Motley Crue |
15/06/2005 |
Manchester Evening News Arena |
The arena wasn't sold out by any means, nevertheless they still rock. First rock gig I've been to that had a ten minute interval though! |

|
| Ben Folds |
13/06/2005 |
The Octagon, Sheffield |
I'd allowed myself to forget how absolutely awesome Ben Folds is. And the release of a seated gig turning into a standup gig due to demands from the crowd made tonight's gig extra special. |

In that Coldplay / Radiohead vein but with New York cool and sophistication. Can't really remember any of the songs though. |

21/04/2005 |

Better than expected, I was worried they might be past their best. But... has Roddy lost his edge? |
| |
|

| Doves |
09/04/2005 |
The Octagon, Sheffield |
Doves absolutely soared tonight. Who needs a god when art can move you like this? |

| British Sea Power |
08/04/2005 |
The Blank Canvas, Leeds |
Like Libraries, I'm glad they exist but I don't necessarily want to go there, and I'm not sure why I was there tonight. Quirky, interesting and full of conviction but I'm not sure I liked the noise, especially at the end. |

|
| The Wonder Stuff |
12/03/2005 |
Leadmill, Sheffield |
Maybe Wonderful would be a bit too strong but they really weren't too bad at all. Miles was way more humble than when I last saw them, headlinning Reading in 1992. Average age of crowd:33! |

|
| Thirteen Senses | 28/02/2005 | Leadmill, Sheffield | A predictable fan base of 'Coldplay couples' and 'Keane girls', nevertheless Thirteen Senses were really rather good. |
| | | | |
| The Dears | 05/02/2005 | Leadmill, Sheffield | mmmm about 3 good songs but why all the meandering? |
| | | | |
| The Wildhearts | 11/12/2004 | Leadmill, Sheffield | Reminded me of why I like music, few bands can deliver Rock with tunes as well as The Wildhearts. |
| | | | |
| The Soundtrack of Our Lives | 13/11/2004 | Leadmill, Sheffield | Pointless, Why am I here? |
| | | | |
| Tyketto | 13/11/2004 | Rock City, Nottingham | Exquisite melodic Hard Rock from back in the day, oh yes! |
| | | | |
| Bloc Party | 30/10/2004 | Leadmill, Sheffield | Sounds a bit different & interesting but difficult to tell due to my over indulgence in Kronenburg and friends shouting in my ear. |
| | | | |
| Sugarcult | 06/10/2004 | Leadmill, Sheffield | Toe Tapping pop punk but it's just for kids really isn't it. |
| | | | |
| The Open | 11/09/2004 | Leadmill, Sheffield | Highly commendable washed out Coldplay stuff but is anybody bothered? |
| | | | |
| 3 Colours Red | 16/07/2004 | Leadmill, Sheffield | Meat and potatoes 90s Rock but I still like them, Chris and Pete worked hard but I don't think they'll be back again. |
| | | | |
| The Killers | 09/07/2004 | Leadmill, Sheffield | Wow, so that's what all the fuss was about at Glastonbury, incredibly musical brilliant songs awesome! |
| | | | |
| Haven | 01/05/2004 | Leadmill, Sheffield | I love this sensitive bloke prog/indie rock thing, but judging by the size of the crowd not that many other people do. |
| | | | |
| The Ordinary Boys | 29/04/2004 | University, Sheffield | Here comes the obvious cliche: Sounded a bit ordinary to me. |
| | | | |
| Duran Duran | 17/04/2004 | MEN Arena, Manchester | Brilliant, Really enjoyed it, I sang along to all the hits and I almost pulled (well spoke to a 30 something durany anyway!) |
| | | | |
| The Wildhearts | 14/04/2004 | Leadmill, Sheffield |
110% Rock! I walked into a packed venue with a 'well up for it' crowd rocking out to Therapy. The Wildhearts were greeted with a similarly warm reaction and delivered to perfection as ever. |
| | | | |
| Snow Patrol | 06/03/2004 | Leadmill, Sheffield |
Majestic, simply majestic. |
